IDEAS FOR THE CLASSROOM
Using Socrative in the classroom for ASSESSMENT
Pre-Assessments or Post-Assessments
Pre-Assessments can be made to test your students on what they know before you teach a particular lesson. This will help you gather their background knowledge on the topic. Seeing where your students are, before starting your lesson, will let you know what you might need to spend more time on. These results will help you evaluate where your students are, as well as how you should follow up with your instruction. Post-Assessments can also be used as a reflection on what your students have learned throughout your lesson. These specific results could help you see where your students struggle or excel. Using these results can help you adjust your instruction if needed.
Check for Understanding
Using Socrative to check for understanding could also help you see exactly how your students are progressing throughout the lesson. This could be a very quick and effective assessment within your instruction. This would be smart to do if you are doing a longer lesson. Making sure the students are understanding each part of the lesson can really help them when it comes to your summative assessment.
Exit Ticket or Reflection
Using Socrative to evaluate what the students learned throughout your lesson will help you in making adjustments to your lesson. An exit ticket or reflection based assessment can be beneficial to your students because it gives them a chance to reflect on their own learning. Exit tickets can have many different formats. They can be as simple as posing a question for the students to answer at the end of your lesson. By using the exit ticket option on Socrative, assessing student responses is faster and easier.
