MWE Friday Focus
August 29 - September 2
First Week Recap
We had a very successful first week - despite the fact that when Mrs. Dean (our morning receptionist) turned on her computer last Monday morning, it didn't work. We had a parent to try and help us, and our SBISD tech guy was also called in. We learned that we need a new hard drive for that computer and a new one is supposed to be delivered today.
Dr. Muri, our Superintendent, visited us on the first day and spent some time in 1st grade, 2nd grade and 4th grade. The students were VERY excited about the camera - and kept asked whether they were going to be on TV!
Mrs. Barry, Mrs. Luberger and I conducted grade level talks with each grade level. At the end, we let students ask us questions. Of course, one of the most popular questions is "How old are you?" and, in an effort to try to figure it out, the second question is usually "What year were you born?"
Your child(ren) should be able to tell you about how our MWE Eagles S.O.A.R. through Safety, Ownership, Attitude and Respect. You will also see the word SOAR throughout the building, as a reminder for students.
Given the traffic situation, dismissal has gone remarkably well. The car rider tags have been delayed because the front office computer was down. However, we were able to get them out yesterday and today. On Monday, we will start using the numbers to call students - which will help the line to go even smoother. If you have not requested a tag, please do so as soon as possible. The form is on the school website at mwe.springbranchisd.com, or you can request one from your child's teacher.
It's been a great start!!
Spring Branch ISD has a Developmental Guidance Program where all children have the opportunity to enhance the skills necessary to help them become responsible, successful learners. Our counseling program is based on the Texas Guidance Curriculum, which is designed to help students acquire age-appropriate knowledge and skills within the following content areas:
Development of Self-confidence
Motivation to achieve
Decision making, goal setting, planning and problem solving
Interpersonal effectiveness
Communication skills
Cross-cultural effectiveness
Responsible behaviors
I am available to help parents and teachers, as well as to work with students in classroom guidance lessons, small groups and individually. Students may self-refer or be referred by teachers, parents or other school personnel.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child. I am on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Student Council
Our Student Council is an integral part of our school and it helps promote a sense of community and school spirit at Meadow Wood. In addition, the Council plans and assists in the implementation of school wide service projects and supports our character education initiatives.
Serving as a Student Council representative is an honor and a privilege. Student Council representatives have satisfactory grades, follow the Eagle SOAR expectations, and are seen as positive role models by others.
Student Council is comprised of 4th and 5th grade students. The 4th graders that served last year will continue to serve this year. In addition, each 4th and 5th grade homeroom will select two representatives from the class.
Student Council representatives are selected through a two-step process involving classmates and teachers. Student input is gathered by having each child complete a character traits rubric. The rubric allows students to identify the people they believe follow the guidelines most of the time. Teachers then review the responses from the class and determine which students’ names appear most frequently. From that list, the teachers make the final decision.
We will begin the process in mid-September to allow teachers and students to get to know each other better.

Reminders
In the mornings, remember to pull up to the first pillar nearest the flagpole. This allows the line to move faster since we can get more cars in the driveway.
Please do not drop your child(ren) off at the front before 7:30 a.m. There is no adult supervision available before 7:30 a.m.
In the car rider line, please have your child(ren) enter and exit cars on the passenger side only. We also ask that the adults remain in the car. A safety patrol or one of the adults on duty will open and close the car door.
In the afternoons, if you want your child to be a car rider, you must come through the car rider line.
If you want to pick up your child from the front, please send a note to the teacher that you want your child to be a Memorial Walker and you will be able to pick up your child just outside the front doors to the school.
Staffing Change
Our numbers this year in Kinder were lower than predicted by the district, so the district has decided that we need to lose a teacher. Our newest teacher in Kinder is Amy Pierce, so she will be going to another campus.
The students in that class were divided among the other 3 Kinder teachers. I (Ms. Redd) made individual calls to all of the parents in Mrs. Pierce's class to let them know about the move. In addition, a letter was sent to all of the Kinder parents.
We are very sorry to lose Mrs. Pierce and hope she will be able to return to Meadow Wood next year.
