Gifted Social Studies Weekly Update
Week of 12/9-12/13
Classroom Happenings
- National History Day is Monday, December 16, 2019 at Hixson Middle School from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.
7th Grade Classes
We had a fun (and a little stressful) week of making and doing. Two big learnings heard from students this week:
- Deadlines motivate people to get stuff done.
- A lot of different things can be described as “satisfying”: Peeling up dried glue, making a crisp, clean cut with the paper cutter, and being completely finished with a big project.
8th Grade Classes
Students submitted their NHD projects and their required written NHD documents!!! All work is related to this year’s theme “Breaking Barriers in History”.
The students are so proud of their accomplishments on the NHD project and are preparing for interviews with the judges on Monday, December 16, 2019.
Students thought about which success skills were developed during their NHD projects. We discussed the following skills: creativity, time management, organization, critical thinking, communication, reading comprehension, collaboration, digital literacy, research, speaking, and writing skills.

Students should plan to arrive 10 or 15 minutes before their scheduled appointments.
All student work will be on display during National History Day on Monday, December 16, 2019 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m!!
