FredAssist
FredASSIST (Fredonia Association of Students for Safer Intimacy and STI Testing) was formerly known as BCIC (The Birth Control Information Center). BCIC was founded in 1975, and the name change occurred in 2012 to more accurately reflect both the population served and services provided. FredASSIST is a student-run group through the Student Association, with office hours staffed by students who are trained to be peer health advocates. Our part-time clinic administrator assists with serving students and training the member advocates. For the full information about our services and programs, visit www.fredassist.weebly.com or find us on Facebook (search for FredASSIST).
Our services include a weekly clinic held in the evening and staffed by a Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse. FredASSIST members and the administrator provide clinic management services. Fredonia students can access Chlamydia/gonorrhea testing ($23), infection checks ($5/$10), and general consultations ($5/$10). If a student is interested in starting a birth control method, a Chlamydia/gonorrhea test is required, and a PAP is required for those 21 and over. Our clinicians follow the CDC recommendations for such screening requirements. Students who have a current prescription through their own provider can also receive refill prescriptions if their screening is up to date. We can also discuss the many birth control options available, both hormonal and non-hormonal.
For the college-age population, sexually transmitted infections (STI) are fairly common; 1 in 2 sexually active people will get an STI by the age of 25, but most young people with an STI don't even know they have it because symptoms aren’t always present. We encourage everyone to get tested and learn how to protect themselves and their current, and future, partners.
If you have questions about birth control, sexually transmitted infections, emergency contraception, or anything else related to sexual wellness, please stop by the FredASSIST office at 58 LoGrasso Hall (in the back hallway), call us at 716-673-3396, or email us at fredassist@fredonia.edu. As always, conversations and services are confidential.

Counseling Center
LoGrasso Hall- 716-373-3424- www.fredonia.edu/counseling
Mission
The mission of the Counseling Center is to promote intellectual, social, and emotional development that fosters academic and personal success within a global and culturally diverse society. The Counseling Center offers individual and group counseling sessions, skills workshops, outreach presentations and includes services aimed at preventing substance abuse and violence on campus.
What can a counselor do for me?
The Counseling Center offers free confidential services to any student attending Fredonia. Professional counselors work individually or with groups to help students be proactive in understanding themselves better, resolve problems, come to terms with difficult issues, and/or address important decisions. The purpose of counseling is not to tell students what to do, but emphasize the ultimate responsibility each person has in conducting their own life.
How to make an appointment
Appointments can be made in person at LoGrasso Hall, or by calling the office at 716-673-3424. The Counseling Center is open from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. In the event of an emergency, the Counseling Center does offer crisis services. If your emergency requires medical attention, University Police should be notified immediately at 716-673-3333. Counseling Center staff members are on-call 24 hours a day while classes are in session. During business hours students should go directly to the Counseling Center. In the event of an after-hours emergency, the counselor on call can be reached via a Residence Director or the University Police.
