THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD VISION
Distance vision screenings & hearing screenings are done yearly on grades K, 1, 3, and 5 as required by the Ohio Revised Code. All new and transfer students are also screened. Students with IEP's are tested yearly. All students who fail their first screening will be rescreened. Any student who fails both the initial and second screenings will be referred for further evaluation. These referral forms will be mailed to the student's home.
Students in kindergarten and new students are also screened for ocular muscle balance and stereopsis. Boys are tested for color deficit.
Teachers may request students be screened for vision at any time if any symptoms such as squinting, frequent rubbing or blinking, complaints of blurred vision, or the inability to see the board. Parents may request screening.
Pure-tone audiometry screening is likewise performed on students in grades K, 1, 3, and 5. Students are tested at 1000Hz, 2000Hz, and 4000Hz.
Teachers may request hearing screening on any student who complains of not hearing well, hearing out of one ear better than the other, or any other ear complaint.
