April 2019 Newsletter
Wrightstown High School Message From the Principal
Welcome to Wrightstown High School, home of the Tigers. The intent of our newsletter is to provide an array of information to our families and the community about our school. We hope it communicates, explains, and provides information you are looking for.
Wrightstown High School offers a wide variety of courses in order to challenge each student to reach their highest learning potential and provide academic success for all students. Nearly 100 courses are offered based on student interest and need. A total of seven Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered. Numerous other offerings have advanced standing agreements with the Wisconsin Technical College System, allowing students to earn technical college credit while attending Wrightstown High School. Also available to our students are on-line and distance learning opportunities where our students can take classes offered elsewhere for high school and/or college credit. Additionally, a variety of academic structures are in place to support the learning needs of students of all abilities.
The 40+ staff members are all committed to the school district vision of a “Quality Education For Every Student”. All of the faculty at Wrightstown High School strive to improve professionally and annually develop plans to help them reach their instructional goals. Wrightstown High School is a growing school of about 450 students- small enough to provide individualized attention yet large enough to offer a wide variety of curricular options. Beyond our strong academic programs, WHS is known for its competitive athletic programs and enriching club activities.
We are excited about the things going on at our school and you are always welcome to visit. Please feel free to call me at (920)532-0525 or e-mail any questions to thompsons@wrightstown.k12.wi.us.

High School and Middle School Art Show
The Middle School and High School will do a joint Art Show at the district Fine Arts Night Wednesday, May 15 from 6-8 pm. Awards will be presented at 7pm. Students will be celebrating and showcasing all of the creativity going on in our schools every day. The "Arts" encourage, inspire and nurture the ideals that are integral to student's daily life. Students learn to create, form opinions and be innovative with materials through creative and imaginative projects, assignments, and art events. Students in the Wrightstown art program are learning to be 21st century thinkers, who can work and compete in a global economy.
ATTENTION PARENTS We are in need of parent volunteers for the HS/MS Art Show on Wednesday, May 15. Please click here https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090A49AEAC2AA3FA7-fine1 if you want to volunteer for set-up, greeting/docent/attendance/food set up/food clean up or art show take down. Thank you very much and we look forward to seeing you at the HS/MS Art Show on the Fine Arts Night!
This time of year brings lots of opportunities for teens to celebrate. Unfortunately, many times these celebrations end in tragedy because the party was fueled by alcohol provided by an adult. Adults who own or control and occupy property may not allow underage drinking and are expected to take steps to prevent underage drinking in places of their control including homes, outbuildings, docks and hotel rooms. This year, Brown County Public Health, select Brown County High Schools, and Brown County Alcohol Task Force want teens (and their parents) to celebrate prom and graduation safely without alcohol. Parents, teachers, business owners or community members may assist in promoting the Parents Who Host Lose the Most campaign by displaying yard signs. These yard signs can be picked up in the high school office during the month of April. Thanks for showing your support!

National Honor Society
The fall 2018 applicants experienced the new and improved application process, and the advisors want to make the process more transparent for those eligible to apply in the fall of 2019 (those with a 3.6 cumulative GPA following an academic year). One component and change, which was optional this year but will be a requirement starting in the fall of 2019, is that applicants must be able to verify 10 hours of community service completed in the past 12 months. Applicants must also demonstrate ACTIVE involvement in a minimum of 2 activities (in or outside of school) with verification of involvement from advisors. Finally, one other significant change is that applicants have to be able to demonstrate their leadership (might be as captain of a sport, but can also be assuming responsibility within a club or even a classroom) and have that verified. Abiding by national policy, the applications will be reviewed by an anonymous faculty council to determine which students best fulfill all four pillars of scholarship, service, character, and leadership. Advisors hope to have the applications ready for the 2019 eligible applicants by the August orientation night.
