Some Comments on Homework:
Kids should have homework with big/special projects. Things like the Science fair or a book report. Otherwise, what they don't finish in class should be homework or lunch time work.
---------------
My children have two hours of farm chores each evening. Homework is detrimental to getting essential processes completed here.
---------------
The name should be changed to something else as the term homework tends to yield negative reactions. The term should be more inline with the blended learning model vocabulary. Also "HW" must be relevant, graded & returned in a timely fashion. It must never be viewed as busy work.
---------------
I think homework should not be busy work, if they don't finish in class they should bring it home to complete. Also, I like to see what my child is working on and discuss it with her when she brings it home. Thank you for asking our opinion.
---------------
I was given homework so my son should be given homework too. Is there any type of tutoring?
---------------
Parents should be involved in homework to ensure a students success in identifying any deficiencies in communication and bridging the gap. A worker is only as good as the available tools!
---------------
Currently foster child doing all work required during school hours.

I support homework for special projects/reports and for finishing any class work that didn't get done at school. But when my kid catches the bus at 6:20 am and gets home at 3:30pm the last thing he needs to do is sit at the kitchen table and do more school work. I hope to be raising a healthy, well rounded child and that requires more than just work sheets. He's already in the care of the school district for 9 hours of the day (including bus rides), I should be the one dictating what happens in the 5 1/2 hours before bed, not you.

You have eight hrs with him to teach the rest of his time is mine to help him become a good man father and husband. I do not support PC but I can support truth with compassion and understanding, something you cannot teach.

This comment is in regards Strictly To The Common Core math. I am not comfortable helping my child with the Common Core math because I myself do not understand it my child has tried her best to explain it to me with no luck if the school district's continued to use the Common Core math I believe they should schedule time for parents to come in to be taught this way ourselves so that we can help our children.

I think is where school work should be done. I understand once in a while if they run out time or if they have s big research assignment and has plenty of time to work on it s little at. A time.
---------------
The school has him for the majority of each day. The rest of the time is mine to help him to become a good man, husband, and father. It is also the time that he works with the family around the house, or to just spend time. School work should be done at school period.
---------------
The research with homework is not solid. Instead of stressing families at night have students work hard during the day and let the evenings be a time for families to be together in a more relaxing atmosphere.
---------------
Homework is great for science fair projects, book reports, unfinished class work. Otherwise is stressful. Feels like home work or parents.

If it's something I can't help her I have a friends son who could

I feel teaching kids HOW to study and prepare is important. Projects, test study guides, research and the like prepare them for the real world. That said, I(having been a teacher AND a social worker) have seen the negative effects of DAILY homework. I think too much causes too much anxiety, dread of learning because it feels overwhelming, and it can hinder ability and time for school sponsored extra curricular activities which I believe are also very important for a healthy child. I think and have seen the benefits of using in school time to complete assignments, using reading type study as the take home, and availability of homework as a way to make up a bad grade, such as they just had an off day, or didn't understand well resulting in lower grade. I've had kids where there was so much homework that even starting immediately after they get home (which is how it goes at our house) there simply wasn't enough time. The kid gets too little sleep, too much stress, hates school because they don't see the point in going since they have to do so much at home- it becomes a vicious cycle. I know how hard it is to get through all material necessary, but if efficient in planning, homework can be kept to just a few days a week. At least in my experience. All my children have been active in sports and good students. I've taken in homeless kids and some who found school excruciating. If used the right way and not just for "oops " the teacher ran out of time type of thing, it can be a great tool. As an afterthought, punishment, or crutch, it can really kill a child's innate interest and drive for learning.

I agree that homework can be beneficial at home. Or just providing additional study times at school or after. Sometimes my child doesn't want my help.
---------------
I think some homework should be done at home. Not every night but some nights. I also think it should be mandatory that the planner be signed my a parent everyday because that way parents know what is going on.
---------------
Occasional homework to finish an assignment, practice a new skill, research or write with time to think and revise or to deepen understanding is an indicator that work at school is rigorous and challenging. Homework just for the sake of homework is a waste of time.
