Principal's Message
Hello Sunset Lake Families,
We have had a great start to our school year and are very proud of the way our student leaders have readjusted into their new school routines. We have spent time learning our building expectations and reviewing our 7 Habits. We have also spent time assessing our students in the areas of literacy and math and are starting up our intervention and extension times during our WIN (What I Need ) instruction block.
In October we will focus on learning more about Habit 1: Be Proactive.
Be Proactive centers on taking charge of your own attitude and actions. We will be teaching our students that they are in charge of themselves and to focus in on what they can do--not the actions of others. We hope you take some time this month to learn more about Habit 1 and to talk with your child what they have learned.
We are super excited that we will be offering 7 Habit Training to 10 Sunset Lake Families this year and plan to continue growing our family learning through Habit Workshops in the future.
We are SUPER excited about an October building event we are kicking off on Friday, October 5th with our 5th Grade Student Leaders. In October, Sunset Lake will be participating in a national project call Look for the Good. We will be spending two weeks really focusing on gratitude. Science has shown people who share gratitude are happier, more satisfied, generous and more cooperative members of their community. Instead of focusing on the negative behaviors of others we are Looking for the Good at Sunset Lake! There is a link at the bottom of this newsletter to learn more. We also will be sending home an introductory letter on Friday to share more information about this happy project.
We wish your family a fun-filled fall season and we hope you enjoy October in Michigan!
Yours in Learning,
Amie McCaw
Sunset Lake Elementary Principal
END OF DAY DISMISSAL
We have been able to average our last pick-up to be 3:45, just ten minutes after our end of day bell. We do ask that you SLOW down when you are driving in our parking lot and remember that sometimes we have family members new to the process and need extra guidance. Thanks in advance for your patience!
A few things to communicate:
1.) IF you are making a change for your child's end of day dismissal--our office MUST know by 3:00 p.m. that day to make sure the message is communicated to everyone involved.
2.) Pedestrians that are picking up children and going into the parking lot need to use the Pedestrian Crosswalk. We have a Crossing Guard that will help guide our cars and keep our families safe. PLEASE be sure to use the Pedestrian Crosswalk every time.
3.) Cars are to use Wellhouse Dr. (behind the school around the ball fields) to enter our pick up line. This extra drive has really helped the congestion off of Boulevard and has helped our flow leaving our parking lot.
4.) Cars with name tags hanging from the rear-view mirror help us keep the pace of our departure. Please contact your child's teacher if you need a name tag.
THANK YOU!
