Patriot Pulse
September 5th Edition
Hello Grissom Families,
We are pleased to report that the 2023-2024 school year is off to a fantastic start! In just over one full week of school, we've accomplished so much. Students and staff returned to the building with excitement and enthusiasm, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.
During the past week, we've embarked on a journey to familiarize students with our PBIS policies and procedures. These essential guidelines were introduced in the first couple of days of school and were reinforced with a school-wide scavenger hunt, engaging all students in a fun activity that reinforced important school policies.
Last week's Open House was a resounding success, as parents and families filled our halls, showcasing the strong sense of community that defines Grissom. Thank you to all who attended!
Additionally, we had the pleasure of hosting our very first 6th Grade Ice Cream Social, a fun event that helped welcome our new 6th-grade students to Grissom. This event was made possible by our PTO, whose commitment to our school's success is truly appreciated.
We completed the fall round of NWEA MAP testing last week. The insights gleaned from these assessments will serve as valuable guides as we set year-long academic goals for all our students, ensuring a focused and effective learning journey.
We concluded this action-packed first week with a school-wide PBIS assembly on Friday, reinforcing our collective commitment to positive behavior and a supportive learning environment. It was the perfect way to cap off our first full week in session.
It's been an awesome start to the year!
Looking ahead to September, we have a variety of exciting events and experiences in store.
Next Wednesday, September 6th, we will hold our school picture day during school hours. Our Fall sports, softball and cross country, are underway. Check the school calendar, and come out to a game to support our Patriots. Several school-sponsored clubs are getting underway, as well. Refer to the activities section of our school website for more information about our extracurricular offerings.
Our top priority remains unwavering: delivering engaging and relevant learning experiences to our students each and every day. By doing so, we believe we can empower our students to excel and thrive.

With warm regards,
Mr. Michael Rumbaugh - Principal
