March is a busy month at Houston Middle School. There are lots of activities happening and important dates to remember. Please take a few minutes to read over our March newsletter. As always, if there are questions, comments, or concerns, please call the school or make an appointment to see any of our teachers.
The end of the 3rd Quarter is quickly approaching. Please remind your children to keep up with their homework and assignments.
Also, there is no school for students on Friday, March 10th because of a teacher workday.

Just Breathe!
Middle school can be stressful both socially and academically. Almost everyone who has been stressed, angry, or anxious has had someone tell them, “Relax and take a few deep breaths.” That’s because it works. One reason is “mindfulness.” Focusing on breathing can quiet your mind and help you gain control of your thoughts. Deep breathing can also help students perform better on tests.
One simple breathing exercise is called Diaphragmatic Breathing. Here’s how it works:
- Sit or stand in a relaxed position with your hands on your stomach
- Feel your hands move outward while you inhale through your nose for 4 seconds
- Hold in the breath for two seconds
- Feel your hands move inward and you exhale through pursed lips for 8 seconds
- Repeat 5 to 10 times
