Gaggle.net: Beyond Student Email
Using Gaggle as a Learning Management System
Your School is already subscribed to Gaggle.net...
Gaggle.net began as a great student email system that has many safeguards built in to avoid local management of misuse and unacceptable use of student email. But in recent years, Gaggle.net has become much more than student email, it has incorporated many features of a learning management system (LMS) that many schools are going towards with the adoption of 1:1 and BOYD programs.

Email & Instant Messaging
Students can communicate in a safe environment that is monitored by Gaggle.net's human monitoring team. Emails that include profanity, inappropriate images, or obscene references are flagged through filters set up by Gaggle.net. Students are warned when discipline issues arise and the administrators of Gaggle.net are also made aware of the situation.
Classes
Teachers can set up classes to provide students with a virtual classroom where assignments can be posted, turned in, stored, and even edited using Google Docs. Students and teachers can communicate on a class wall that is dedicated to the specific class and roster of students. Teachers can customize the content shared on the page which is great for communication in a safe environment between teachers and students.
Apps
Gaggle Tube
GaggleTube is a "filtered" YouTube search. It has where teachers can upload videos to the GaggleTube database, but also can search YouTube videos that have been "approved" by the Gaggle Human Monitoring system and/or went through an approval system with teachers. Many videos that your system may block simply because they are located on YouTube (and not on the Educational Section of YouTube) you can also find unblocked on GaggleTube.
Chat Rooms
Chat rooms are great for students to use for collaborative projects, ways to get help with concepts they may not understand, or a way to have genius hour virtually where students can be there to help other students.
Blogs
With the implementation of the ACT ASPIRE Writing test this spring in many systems across Alabama, students will be expected to write across the curriculum or participate in interdisciplinary writing projects that display their writing over time or allow the teacher to respond to the student's writing.
Digital Locker
You can store files in the Digital Locker where the files can easily be shared or submitted for an assignment. Files can also be opened in Google Docs for Education
Cyber Safety
Built in cyber safety course you can use with your students.
Assignments
Flipped classroom? Going paperless this fall? Or you just want a way for students to easily submit digital files? You can create assignments with due dates in Gaggle for students to submit those assignments through Gaggle.
Cyber Safety Course Componets
Google Apps for Education Integration
Google Apps for Education are integrated into Gaggle. Students are able to edit their documents, store them online in Google Drive, and then collaborate/share with others in real time.
