Cougar Reminders
Message from Mr. Palermo
Hay Families,
The first 3 days of Remote Learning have been amazing! Seeing kids interacting with each other and their teachers brought some normalcy back to our lives at Hay. I hope you felt the same as well at home. Now that we are up and running we are able to start assessing the experience and adjusting to meet your needs.
Things we are tracking
Initially, we are tracking attendance through a combination of Community Circle Zoom Meetings & work completion. You have the option to opt out of our Zoom meetings. To opt out you can email the classroom teacher and they will send that information up the chain. Our first 3 days of attendance have been remarkable. Our building attendance rates have been very close to what they were prior to our remote learning experience. That is a huge celebration and speaks volumes to the level of student, family, and teacher engagement in this time.
Work completion is a Hay expectation and we are paying close attention to student/family needs. As we continue collecting information next week we will be able to formalize a response to better support students/families that are struggling accessing assignments. Again, like our attendance, we are noticing high levels of engagement and early success with our remote learning and assignment completion.
We are very much interested in assessing what is working well and what needs to improve. That said, a change as significant as we have implemented needs time to settle before we can accurately assess what is working and effectively develop a proper response. Next week we will continue operating in the same manner as this week. Starting the week of April 13th, I will reach out to you through weekly parent zoom meetings and surveys. This effort will be carried out separately at each grade level. Grade level Zoom meetings will take place on Mondays. Your grade level meeting will be linked to this newsletter every week. Also, there will be parent meetings on Tuesdays for Spanish speaking families.
Reminders
During this remote learning experience it is important to monitor our kids online activity. While remote learning can be a vital experience in student development it opens up the door for potential misuse of technology and/or online hacking. Pay attention to what your child(ren) is experiencing specifically in regard to Zoom or facetime meetings for school and/or connecting with friends.
If you have a damaged device or are experiencing other technology challenges you may contact tech. Support through Tech@engschools.net or (303)806-6883. This gives you a direct line to the Englewood Public Schools’ Tech. Department. They will reach out to you directly to coordinate support around technology challenges.
Thank you for your support and engagement! Now more than ever, we need to support each other in supporting our kids.
Have a great weekend!

Digital Learning Resources
Englewood Schools has compiled extensive learning resources for students to access during the extended closure of our schools. Linked here is a website with the optional, supplemental resources. The site will be updated periodically throughout the closure. While we know these resources do not replace classroom instruction, they are designed to provide students an opportunity to continue their learning. We understand that questions might arise on how to use the resources. If you have questions regarding the resources linked on the website, please contact Learning_Services@engschools.net.
