The Wallace Wildcat
Dear Wallace School Parents and Guardians,
As a school, we are at our best when we work together, when we celebrate, and when we gather. I take pride in the fact that our staff, students, and parent community openly engage with and support one another. There are several things happening within Wallace School that showcase this spirit of collaboration and highlight the wonderful diversity that makes us a truly inclusive community.
As the holiday season approaches, the Wallace select choir had the honor to perform at the Hoboken Tree Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at City Hall. They sang "Somewhere in my Memory" from Home Alone. It was nice to see our district ensembles ringing in the holiday season together. Thank you, Mr. Stasiak, for organizing this music department event and Ms. Safko for all that you do for our community. The students had a wonderful evening! Please join us at these upcoming concerts: Middle/HS Concert- December 11, 2019 at 7 PM in the High School Auditorium and for the Elementary School Concert on December 18, 2019 at 7 PM, also in the High School Auditorium.
Thanks to the continued interest in the Nutrition Education efforts in the Hoboken School District, this past Wednesday we hosted the Pomptonian Wellness Fair at Wallace School. This fair was designed by our registered dietician. There was a variety of stations that the students visited while they were at the fair. Each station was designed to educate on a large variety of topics. The students moved from station to station, spending just a brief time at each hands-on display. We had a variety of food service professionals managing the different stations and every child seemed to love the experience.
This week students in third grade our students participated in the Partners in Prevention's Footprints for Life program. This is a research based initiative that teaches important life skills and social emotional competencies. Students are learning how to use "I-messages," solve problems, celebrate differences, and cope with hard feelings. Through the use of puppets and storytelling they are able to practice these skills in a fun and safe environment. The program will continue weekly through January.
Looking ahead over the next few weeks, some of our teachers will be inviting the families of students into their classrooms for special holiday-themed performances and events. Just to name a few, our Kindergarteners will perform a holiday show, Ms. Cocucci will lead her class through performances of The Nutcracker and the 5th grade teachers will honor their scholars with a winter celebration brunch. I look forward to these events and hope, if you are invited, you can attend as well.
Please be sure to enjoy a weekend with your family and friends before we gather together again on Monday. Until next week… Martin Shannon, Principal
