Early Childhood Connection
October 30, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we close out October we look back on the fun we had throughout the month. Our students practiced safety drills, learned about fire safety during Fire Prevention Week, participated in Week of Respect activities during the week of October 7th, and celebrated the end of the month in costume. What a busy month for our 3 and 4 year old friends! As we gear up to welcome another month our teachers are busy planning exciting lessons and activities to introduce Election Day, Diwali, and Thanksgiving.
As I reflected on last year's weekly newsletters, I wanted to start something different. In the first few editions of the 20-21 Early Childhood Connection you may recall I highlighted some of the Early Childhood staff from the Hoboken Board of Education, HOPES, and Mile Square. Moving forward, I will be shining a spotlight on our amazing preschool teachers. Moving forward, each week I will be showcasing teachers from around our program. Additionally I have asked those teachers to share some pictures of what they have been doing in their class. What I love about this initiative is being able to publicize and illustrate the wonderful things that are happening in our classrooms. It gives parents and guardians a glimpse into our world.
Another initiative that has been developed for this year is the creation of the Diversity Council. The mission of this council is to create and nurture and inclusive community that cares about each other coming together to make a collective pact by establishing a dedicated focus on diversity and inclusion priorities. We'll be hosting quarterly meetings to discuss different ways we can continue the conversation around diversity and inclusivity. The council will be made up of various stakeholders, including but not limited to the ECE Supervisor, Dr. Yesenia Flores (PIRT and Licensed Psychologist), Dr. Tamika Pollins (Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion), teachers and others from within the provider organizations, and of course parents/guardians. In order to have a great conversation we are limiting our parent population to 10 parents. Please see the flyer below for further information and details on how to register.
Have an enjoyable and safe Halloween weekend!
Warm Regards,
Lauren Eakin

This year, we'll be providing a facelift to the ECE Available Resource webpage starting with a name change. Since this website is so much more than available resources, this site will simply be referred to as the ECE website.
This webpage will be a work in progress and will be updated frequently. Be sure to visit often!
