Scarborough Middle School
Family Newsletter for 12-3-2021
Hello Scarborough Middle School Families,
As we prepare for our second COVID vaccine clinic, we want to let you know your student's COVID vaccine card will be coming home with them after the clinic on 12/6. Also as a reminder, if your student received their first dose at school but will not be receiving their second dose at the school clinic, please notify the school nurse as soon as possible to make arrangements to receive their card and have their name removed for the clinic. Any questions or concerns can be directed to either of the school nurses.
Respectfully,
Kathy Tirrell, Principal
David Currier, Assistant Principal

INCLUSIVE SCHOOLS WEEK IS COMING SOON!
The SMS Unified Club is excited to once again be celebrating Inclusive Schools Week! Inclusive Schools Week is an annual event which is held each year during the first full week in December. Since its inception in 2001, Inclusive Schools Week has celebrated the progress that schools have made in providing a supportive and quality education to an increasingly diverse student population, including students who are marginalized due to disability, gender, socio-economic status, cultural heritage, language preference, and other factors. This year's world-wide theme is “Rebuilding Our Inclusive Community Together.”

ME Bioscience Day
The Bioscience Association of Maine worked with local scientists and bioscience companies in Maine to show just a few of the wide variety of awesome science careers here in Maine! We heard from MDI Biological Laboratory, Northeast Laboratory Sciences, and Abbott Labs.
The next day, we did a hands-on activity using a glycerine solution to model a virus membrane, and showed how soap works to break that membrane apart (how soap inactivates coronavirus!). This helped us understand the science behind the importance of washing our hands really well to keep healthy as we head into the winter!
Lastly, we talked about STEAM jobs of the future and any that may be fun to consider as a future career, and made a slide to share.
