Assessment Dates
MAP Assessments-
CogAT Assessment-
All 2nd graders will take the Cognitive Ability Test (CogAT) between December 5-8, 2016, during the school day. For those students in the other grades, you may request that your child participate in this round of testing. This is in accordance with HB 282, which requires that school districts provide two opportunities for testing to identify students as gifted. PLEASE NOTE THAT SCORES ON KINDERGARTEN and FIRST GRADE TESTS WILL NOT BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION FOR PULL-OUT GIFTED SERVICES.
Parents of 2nd graders do NOT need to request testing since it is an automatic process. However, if your child is not in 2nd grade and you would like to have your child participate in the December administration of the CogAT, use the below link to request testing. The deadline to submit your request is November 30. In order to decrease disruption to your child's instruction, this testing opportunity will take place on Saturday, December 10, at Maple Dale Elementary from 9:00 until 12:00. Please note that it is the parents' responsibility to provide transportation to and from Maple Dale.
All testing requests must be submitted using the below link. Email requests cannot be accepted. If you have any questions, please email Mindy Zellner, District Gifted Coordinator, at zellnerm@sycamoreschools.org.

Our new Gaga game is going well. Students are enjoying this new activity and are showing great sportsmanship. Thank you again to Mr. Week and Mr. Osborne for building the pit for us, and to our recess staff who are helping our students Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Problem Solvers at recess.
Parent Survey
Our school has partnered with BrightBytes - an educational research organization - to explore our use of technology for learning.
We invite you to answer a few questions about your technology use. It should take less than 5 minutes to complete on any device with internet access. The survey is now open. We are hoping to have the survey finished by Friday, Dec 9. Your feedback is an essential component of our instructional technology planning.

Coming to Second Grade lunch on Thursday, December 8th- Herb tasting!!!
Compliments of the Garden Team and Wellness Team Initiative.
This is a joint Garden Team and Health and Wellness Team initiative to encourage the students to try out and enjoy the flavors of the vegetables and herbs they grow in the school garden. The 2nd grade herb tasting is based on the parsley and chives the 2nd graders planted in the Sweetwood Garden as 1st Graders last school year. The chives and parsley will be mixed in a cream cheese dip, and will be offered to the students during their lunch period on Thursday, December 8th. Students with dietary dairy restrictions should not participate in this tasting. Please contact the school nurse for food allergy questions or concerns.
