Welcome to the Prairie Point Panther Press!
Curriculum Night
Dear Prairie Point Families:
I’d like to welcome you to the 2016-2017 school year. We are off to a great start! The staff and I are looking forward to seeing you at curriculum night on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at 6:30 pm.
During curriculum night presentations, the teachers will share information with you about the district curriculum, the Common Core State Standards, and information specific to their classrooms.
There will be 2 sessions held in the classrooms.
Session 1: 6:30 p.m. – 7:10 p.m.
Session 2: 7:15 p.m. – 7:55 p.m.
We do ask that your children stay home this evening, as the information shared is for parents only.
During the evening, Mrs. Kern, our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Lenz, our Special Education Coordinator, and I will be available to answer questions or talk with you. Please don’t hesitate to seek us out just to say hello or to ask questions. We look forward to seeing you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jennifer Groves
Principal

News from the Art Room
Greetings from the Prairie Point art room!
Our young artists have been busy in the art room already this year.
Full day kindergarteners have been getting to know the art room and starting with the various art tools. Each student in grades 1-5 begins the year by making a name tag.
First graders focus on following directions and the primary colors; red, yellow and blue. The second graders focus on primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and the secondary colors (green, purple and orange) while making patterns all across their names.
Third graders have been practicing their complex pattern making skills with Zentangles. Each name tag was colored with warm and cool colors.
Fourth and fifth graders drew or traced their hands spelling their name in American Sign Language. They also chose 3 color families for the various parts of their name tag. It is amazing to watch their skills develop over the years.
Prairie Point will be participating in a marker recycling program sponsored by Crayola. Keep an eye out for the marker recycling box labeled with the image above. All old, tired markers may be placed in the box outside the art room. Once the box is full, it will be shipped to Crayola where markers get turned into energy! Shipping is paid by Crayola. Send any and all old, tired markers to PPT with your student.

News from the Nurse
Welcome back! We are so excited to start the new year. Just a friendly reminder, we have some students in our school with life threatening food allergies. Please be cognizant of the ingredients in the snacks you are sending with your child to school.
Thank you so much! With your help we can keep all our students safe and ready to learn. Have a great school year.
