Visual Art with Mr. Powell
Rough Cut Wood Value Artwork: 8th Grade (photos above)
Objective: Students used the elements and principles of design to create a composition with a personal meaning on rough cut wood using sharpie, nails, wood burning, and/or stain to create depth with value.
Each student was given a rough cut piece of oak and had to use the character of that wood and the chosen materials to create a composition that could show depth using value. Students had to choose their subject and sketch multiple composition sketches prior to starting on their final artwork. Student artwork was assessed on value, creativity, craftsmanship and details.
Georgia O’Keeffe Artwork: 6th Grade (photos below)
Objective: Students completed a pastel drawing of a flower that utilizes abstraction techniques like the famous American artist Georgia O’Keeffe.
Students looked at images of flowers and selected portions of that image to sketch at least 16 different composition possibilities. Students selected their favorite composition and drew it proportionately larger. They then used oil pastels to add color and create depth using multiple values of colors. Student artwork as assessed on layout, value, blending, craftsmanship and color.

6th Grade Dismissal Requests
We do not have a designated playground or direct supervision for elementary and preschool children. Recently, a few children have been hurt or have had disagreements. Please have elementary and preschool children wait in the car with you as you wait for 6th grade dismissal.
In addition, please be mindful that you are not cutting off others by switching lanes abruptly without a signal.
Thank you for your time and assistance. Everyone's safety is our priority.
